Ian Lowther
SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPIST & PODIATRIST
BSC Physiotherapy APAM, DIP AP SC (Podiatry), Grad DIP Sports Physio
I’ve been working now in these fields of Physiotherapy and Podiatry for over 40 years.
After completing physio training, I commenced work at Fremantle Hospital. Approximately 12 months after the hospital stint I entered into private practice. I was then fortunate to complete the postgraduate diploma in sports physiotherapy.
As a sports physio and podiatrist I was able to work at various sporting clubs from netball to AFL football and also to have a significant association with dancing injuries through a connection to the graduate college of dance. I also spent 5 very enjoyable years with Australia’s Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team.
I have been able to develop working relationships with leading orthopaedic surgeons which allowed me the privilege of observing the surgery whilst performing ACL reconstructions joint replacements and shoulder stabilisation procedures.
This allow me to understand the nature of the surgery and the impact on the patient along with the requirements of the surgeon for the patient post-operatively.
Overall this background has given me the ability to help people overcome their sports injuries from head to toe.
Rehabilitation patients post hip or knee replacements, I find really rewarding as I had my own knee replacement some years ago.
The main thing for me though, is I still really enjoy working and trying to make a difference whether my patients be a toddler or 100-year-old World War II veteran.
I’ve been in this professions for a long time and I still want to contribute because that’s what physios and podiatrist do.
