Ian Lowther

SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPIST & PODIATRIST

BSC Physiotherapy APAM, DIP AP SC (Podiatry), Grad DIP Sports Physio

With almost 40 years of experience, I’m a physiotherapist, podiatrist and principle director at Lowther Physiotherapy. Renowned for my hands-on therapy techniques, I offer a personalised and tactile approach to pain/injuries that sets me apart in today’s increasingly hands-off healthcare environment.

I began my career as a Podiatrist and soon after became a Sports Physiotherapist. Having both degrees provided me with a deep understanding of human anatomy and movement mechanics, which I’ve applied throughout my career.

Manual therapy techniques, including manipulation, mobilisation, and deep tissue massage are second nature to me. This expertise makes me exceptionally skilled in treating complex musculoskeletal issues. My hands have felt all the problems you're likely to walk in with, giving me a tactile familiarity with a vast array of conditions—from sports injuries to chronic pain management.

Most notably I’ve worked as the team physiotherapist for the Fremantle Dockers and the national wheelchair basketball team, which won a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. These experiences along with the last 40 years of practice have refined my skills in sports physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

My approach to patient care is deeply rooted in the belief that physical touch not only aids in diagnosing and treating but also in connecting and understanding my patients. I value the traditional aspects of physiotherapy, which I believe are essential in achieving better health for my clients.
